Your Rights Under the EU Data Act
Under the EU Data Act, you are entitled to free access to data generated by your use of KEF connected speakers and related services. This page explains what data is available to you, how to request it, and how we handle your request.
- Access your data: You can request a copy of the data generated by your KEF connected speaker and KEF Connect app at any time.
- Share your data: You can ask KEF to transfer your data directly to a third party of your choice (excluding gatekeepers under the EU Digital Markets Act).
This page applies to KEF speakers that connect to the internet and transmit usage data to KEF’s cloud services. Speakers that operate via Bluetooth only and do not transmit data to KEF’s cloud services are not in scope.
What Data Is Included
The following data is generated when you interact with your KEF connected speaker and KEF Connect app:
- Device Identification & Context — Speaker model, Speaker ID, KEF ID, firmware version, timestamp, and country/region code.
- Playback & Control Events — Volume adjustments, play/pause actions, mute/unmute, and source or music streaming service selection.
- System & Operational Events — Device boot/shutdown times, network connectivity status, speed test results, temperature readings, and system status updates.
- User Preferences & Configuration — EQ profile selections, room calibration status and results, standby and default volume settings, home automation integration status, and remote control interactions.
This data is linked to your KEF account (KEFID) and is only available if you have registered an account.
Why We Collect This Data
We collect this data for the following purposes:
- Performance Monitoring: To monitor speaker system performance and capture any critical issues.
- Experience Improvement: To better understand how you interact with your KEF speaker and KEF Connect app, so we can continue to improve your experience.
- Personalisation: To store and retrieve your personalisation settings and customisation preferences within the KEF Connect app.
- Bug Resolution: To supplement bug reports you submit — logs are used by our developers to investigate and resolve issues with your KEF speaker or app.
- Audio Optimisation: To optimise audio performance for your home environment.
- Further Reading: For more details on non-personal information collected, see Section 4.1 of our Privacy Policy. For personal data handling, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
Please note that this data does not include personal information such as your name, email address, or payment details.
How We Protect Your Data
We apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect your data, including encryption and strict access controls. To ensure maximum privacy, diagnostic logs are not transmitted to KEF by default — they remain on your device unless you proactively choose to submit a “Report issue” through the KEF Connect app.
What Is Not Included
Please note that the following data is outside the scope of your request:
- Unstored Data: Data generated before your account was created, or data deleted in accordance with our retention policy.
- Local Diagnostic Logs: Diagnostic logs are stored locally on your speaker. Because these are not transmitted to KEF unless you manually share them for support, they are not held in our cloud and cannot be included in your data request.
Estimated Data Volume & Format
KEF connected speakers generate event-based data, not a continuous data stream. Data is only recorded when you interact with your speaker or app — for example, when you change the volume, switch inputs, or update settings.
- Estimated volume: Based on typical usage, the estimated data volume is around 15 KB per day. Actual size may vary depending on how frequently you use your speaker and app.
- Format: The data generated by your KEF speaker and the KEF Connect app is generated in JSON format. When you request your data, it will be provided as a downloadable compressed ZIP file containing the JSON data.
- Retention: Data is retained for the duration of your active KEF account. Upon account deletion, your data is anonymised or deleted in accordance with our retention policy.
Please Note
Data is only available from the date your KEF account was created. We are unable to provide data generated before your account was registered.

If you choose to share your data with a third party, please note that you will need a separate agreement with that party (such as accepting their Terms of Service) regarding how they may use your data. KEF is responsible for the secure transfer only.
